UFC on Fox 7 Odds: Ben Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez

On Saturday, April 20, 2013, the seventh installment of the UFC on FOX series will air live from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. In the main event, Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez will finally make his UFC debut against reigning UFC Lightweight champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson. Both of these guys have proven themselves at the top level of the Lightweight division, so this is a very highly-anticipated matchup. What makes this fight so interesting is how stylistically similar the two are. Both have solid standup, but do their best work with wrestling, top control, and ground and pound. If Melendez wants to capture gold in his Octagon debut, he’s going to need to find a way to neutralize Henderson’s explovise physicality and dominant wrestling.

In the semi-main event, rising Heavyweight star Daniel Cormier will also make his UFC debut against former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir. If Mir wants to put the first blemish on Cormier’s record, he will need to find a way to stop Cormier’s dominant wrestling and scary power punching. Rounding out the card are a Lightweight matchup pitting Nate Diaz against long-time veteran Josh Thomson and a Welterweight showdown between Jordan “Young Gun” Mein and Matt “The Immortal” Brown.
