UFC 215: Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko

September 9th has been announced as the date for UFC Fight Night 215 and the fight card is certainly appetizing. The title fight for the men is where Demetrious Johnson will be looking to defend his championship title for a record 11th time against second seeded Ray Borg. While on the women’s end too there is a title up for the taking when Amanda Nunes comes up against Valentina Shevchenko.
This fight certainly has all eyes on it considering that it was actually scheduled to take place during UFC 213 itself. However, that ended up not happening as unfortunately Nunes pulled out citing an injury only hours before show time. Obviously, there was a lot of controversy about her decision to not fight, and the speculation mostly was premised around assumptions that Nunes pulled out not actually because of an injury but rather because she just got cold feet. However, it wasn’t long before the fight was rescheduled to take place in UFC 215 and now, it’s just around the corner.
These two have fought each other before back in 2015 when Nunes was able to amass enough points and then fend of late dominance by Shevchenko to be declared the winner by decision. However, what the women were back then is only a shadow of who they are today. They have both improved vastly in all aspects of their fighting and this time, it is going to be a whole different affair. They are both at the very top of the rankings for their weight division and it is certainly going to be a competitive affair.
In terms of predictions, we have some reference point here since a lot of predictions were made back during UFC 213, and that pretty much still holds true. Nunes might have got the better of Shevchenko back in 2015, but it was clear at the end of that bout that Shevchenko has the skills and endurance to give it back to Nunes, she just ran out of time. We believe she will go for it right from the go this time around. Shevchenko to win by unanimous decision.
