In the evening’s first bout, Dave Branch and Ultimate Fighter alum Rich Attonito will meet in a Middleweight contest. Branch, a skilled grappler who can throw hard punches, is unfortunately best known for getting slammed right out of his fight with Gerald Harris, while Attonito made his debut on
The Ultimate Fighter, which he was forced to withdraw from due to injury.

Branch, a Renzo Gracie student, has good jiu-jitsu, decent wrestling, and pretty good ground and pound from the top. He isn’t really dominant at any one thing, but he is decently well-rounded and Attonito is an opponent in his range.

Attonito, who trains at American Top Team, is also a fairly well-rounded fighter, with good wrestling and submissions and serviceable boxing. Like Branch, nothing about his game is overwhelming, but he is solid in every aspect.

Neither one of these guys is a virtuoso in any one thing, but I think the overall edge has to go to Attonito. I think his boxing is a bit better, as his wrestling, and neither guy is so prolific on the ground that he is going to be a threat to finish off his back. Attonito should control this one en route to a unanimous decision win.

Prediction:  Rich Attonito via Unanimous Decision.
