Both men are coming off big losses to great wrestlers. While neither of these two are great in the wrestling department, they each have their own set of skills. Kongo an excellent kickboxer with heavy-hands and Mir with improved standup and slick jiu jitsu. The game plan for each fighter here is simple. Kongo needs to keep this fight standing and Mir will look to go to the ground. I see Kongo outboxing Mir, stuffing Mir’s takedown attempts and will eventually land a huge punch sending him to the mat. Kongo for my underdog pick via second round T/KO.

Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida

Here we have former lightweight title challenger Kenny Florian taking on the relentless wrestler Clay Guida. Neither fighter carries heavy hands, so this fight will definitely go the distance. We know they both have great cardio and should not play a role in the three rounds of comabt. The difference here is that Kenny is far better in every skill set, but wrestling. That means Guida must take Kenny down and lay and pray. Kenny will outbox Guida, stuff most of his takedowns, and even throw a couple of submission attempts. En route to a unanimous decision victory for Kenny Florian.

Jon Fitch vs. Mike Pierce

This fight matches up two strong wrestlers in Jon Fitch and Mike Pierce. Pierce is riding a six fight win streak with his most recent over Brock Larson, where he was also the underdog. However that momentum is all he has in this fight. He is taking on more than he can chew against Fitch. Don’t get me wrong he is a very good fighter, but is outmatch in every department against Fitch. I see this fight similar to last weeks (Edgar vs. Veach) scenario. Although I don’t see Fitch finishing the fight. Jon Fitch via unanimous decision.

Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve

We have the return of UFC vet Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello taking on 6’11” jiu jitsu ace Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve. Like the Mir/Kongo fight, Buentello needs to keep this fight standing and Struve would like to get it to the mat. Buentello’s a big striker, but his biggest weakness is submission defense. That is where Struve makes his living, with 14 of his 18 wins via subs. Struve’s biggest weakness is his striking, but his long limbs will keep Buentello at bay and allow him to tie up Buentello. Where he will eventually take the fight and wrap up a first round submission. Stefan Struve via first round submission.
