Patricio Freire’s Bellator 153 Win Will Hand Him Title Shot

Patricio “Pitbull” Freire’s Bellator 135 fight was made even more of a challenge than expected due to an unforeseen injury that he picked up prior to the fight. However, Freire has still managed to not only fight through the injury but also to win the fight commendably. He says that this Bellator 135 fight was especially important and that this is what has now given him the amazing opportunity to receive featherweight title shot.

The title shot fight has not yet been officially confirmed by Bellator, but Freire himself seems rather confident and expects the opportunity to come knocking his way. The Bellator 135 fight was against Henry Corrales who holds a good MMA record of 12 wins to three loses but the same cannot be said for Corrales’ BMMA record which currently stands at zero wins to three loses after his most recent loss to Freire.

The fight ended in the second round as Corrales was forced to tap out after being subjected to a submission by Freire who is well known for his great ground work and submission maneuvers. The event and the fight were telecasted on Spike and the venue was Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Freire went into this fight on the back of a loss to the current 145 pound champion Daniel Straus. The fight against Straus was a title shot and was part of Bellator 145 which happened back in November of 2015. Freire conceded that the win against Corrales was not exactly his best fight provided that the opponent was revealed on short notice so he had very little time to do his homework on strategy and also a physical issue further added to this problem and so he was not at 100%.

Freire’s loss to Straus in Bellator 145 not only lost him the title but also resulted in the end of a superb seven win streak which had built him a reputation as a high risk title holder who would seek out highlight-reel wins.
